5th Quarter - Friday, September 6th

Sullivan East High School was the scene of much activity the night of the 6th when the Patriots took on the Elizabethton Cyclones. Unfortunately my alma mater, East, lost handily. As a pick-me-up for the students however, the game was followed by the 5th Quarter. If you'll recall, the 5th Quarter is a community outreach program of our Youth that always follows a home football game for the Sullivan East Patriots. This time things were a little different however, as the event was hosted in partnership with the F.C.A., the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an internationally recognized sports ministry based in Kansas City, Missouri.

The softball field overlooking the gridiron was the place to be for the roughly seventy visitors who turned out for a night of fun and fellowship. On top of the absolute mountain of pizza for hungry kids, there was also entertainment provided by the Poplar Ridge praise and worship team and a special guest speaker, ETSU football Letterwinner, Stacy Ivester.

I'm glad our church has the ability to play a part in our community like this, where it concerns young people. High school is a difficult time of change and self-discovery where woefully unprepared teens learn who they are and how to transition into the real world. Suffice it to say, Biblical truths are especially important

during this period of unknowns where, if left to their own devices, teens will seek solidity from anything in their reach, good or bad. Always pray for the young people in your life, they need it.

God bless.
